Of course, you can buy hummus at any store, and we all do, but for the cost of a can of garbanzo beans (also known as chickpeas) you can make a batch to your desired spiciness in 5 minutes! And, it’s worlds better and lower in sodium than prepared hummus! Red chile flakes is the one spice I always reach for when preparing a cooked savory dish – it adds a subtle zip that awakens your taste buds. For this hummus, I opted to jazz it up with a dash of cayenne and, for a Moroccan flair, a teaspoon of Ras el Hanout, my current spice obsession from Awaken Savor spices.
